Celebrated Ramadan in two countries

Question
I live in the USA and we began fasting on Monday. Then I went back to Jordan; there the fasting began on Sunday. So I'm one day behind. They will have Eid earlier. What do I have to do? Note: I will stay in Jordan until the end of the Eid.

Answer
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.

Whoever moves from the place where he started Ramadhaan to another place where the new moon was sighted at a different time, should act according to the place to where he moved. When people in that place break the fast, he breaks the fast with them with no consideration to the place from which he moved.

The Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said: "The fast is broken as soon as the public (in a given place) break it, celebrating Adh-Haa (sacrifice) is when the people celebrate it". [At-Tirmithi and Al-Daaraqutny].

In another narration the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said: "Fasting is on the day you, the public, fast, the Fitr is the day you, the public, break the fast and the Adh-Haa is the day when you (the public) celebrate Adh-Haa."

This means that fasting and breaking the fast are with the community with whom the person lives.

If you fast less than 29 days, you should make up the remaining days, as the month cannot be less then 29 days.

Allah knows best.
